the porch: before hauthaus

Once upon a time, there was a front porch in a beautiful home on Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis. It needed some love and care. The floors were painted a cement grey color, and the beadboard ceiling needed a little bit of updating.

The new, large windows boasted a breathtaking view of the lake and running trail, which made this porch an ideal place to gather with friends and family.

the porch: the transformation

Enter hauthaus. Holly and Amber used the concept “Gentleman in the Jungle” and ran with it.

They crossed their fingers as the crew from Vujovich Design Build sanded the grey paint off of the floor. It was a pleasant surprise to find the original Douglas Fir wood flooring from 1908 intact.  What a sight to see! It was a shame that such beauty had been covered up for so long under all those layers of paint.

The floor was stained to a pretty fruitwood finish and a navy vinyl floor covering was installed on the ceiling to add color and texture to the space. Furnishings were sourced at Spinario Design and KDR Showrooms in Minneapolis. Some of the homeowner’s own pieces were used in the final design of the porch.

the porch: almost

Just as the opening day of the showcase home was nearing, the furniture was delivered and finishing touches were put in place.

The curvy Teak chair and ottoman and “Purple Heart” wood table were built by an Italian furniture maker. The homeowner, Dan Beuttner, found these pieces of reclaimed wood while on his travels through South America.

It seems as though every piece in this home is special and has a fun story.

We hope that you can stop by the houses in the next few weeks to see the finished hauthaus porch and to view other brilliant designer work!
