One of our fabulous clients in Uptown in Minneapolis is anxiously awaiting her master bedroom window treatments. They will finish off her 3rd floor master nicely by adding color, texture, and by blocking the light on bright mornings.

Dawn, the talent behind Creative Coverings (our go-to workroom), sent us pictures as she’s constructing the panels this week…

It all starts with a fabric, an idea and a drawing...

Here, you can see how Dawn is prepping the lining by ironing it down and pinning it before she sews. This will then be attached to the panel fabric.

Next, she lays out the Romo fabric and begins to work on the hems.

These will end up to be three sets of fully functioning panels with pleats at the top. They’ll go behind the bed, in the seating nook, and on the stair wall.

Look for photos of the installation and of the finished panels hung in place in the next few posts!

Last week, Dianna from KDR Showrooms at IMS sat down with me and showed me the new Marc Alexander fabric collection… It is so stunning!

The muted colors, rich textures, and delicate prints blew me away. This collection is what is inspiring me this week.

Here are some of my favorites from that showing:

From top left to bottom right: (chair) Artisan Colleciton, (striped fabric) Woodstock Collection, (textured fabric) Village Collection, (floral chair) Artisan Collection

The new collection has such a wide variety of styles and feels that, depending on how they are mixed and matched and what the application is, it could have a very elegant/ contemporary feel, or a delicate/ traditional feel.

It was so fun to get my samples in the mail and start playing with combinations of textures, stripes, prints and more!

For samples and/or to find out how these gorgeous fabrics could work in your home, give us a jingle!  But for now, I hope that you enjoy these lovely pics and maybe find some inspiration of your own!
 🙂

This shows more from the Artisan Collection.

the color purple

Today I’m taking a little color inspiration from the pretty purple Royal Candles and Geraniums flowers  that are outside of my office window…

Purple at home: 12 light chandelier by Cyan Lighting, abstract animal print wallpaper by Romo, and Theatre two seater sofa by DWR.

Purple in Life: carry-on luggage and garden hose sprayer from Crate & Barrel, and lavender infused sleeping blanket from Patina Stores.

Purple in fashion: watch by Marc Jacobs, leather heels by Michael Antonio, and Floral wrap scarf from Anthropologie.

What are you taking inspiration from today?

design tips: pillows

September 21, 2010

At West Elm, you can find these fun pillows made from Mongolian lamb's wool. Add them to your sofa for instant drama!

Pillows are a fun and easy way to spruce up a room.  And we’ll all be in need of a little ‘sprucing’ here in a bit as we enter the grey months of winter!

But… we’re not there yet, so to get your idea wheels turning, here are some fun pillows and tips to go with them… enjoy!

Custom pillows, like these made from Romo fabrics, are a great way to get the exact look you are going for. They are an easy way to add a pop of color, and it's easy enough to switch them out when your style changes.

Go for stripes! Stripes work well in traditional, transitional, and modern space alike. Try looking for added details like piping or trim on the edges for a custom look.
