If you’re looking at your living room and thinking that it looks a little tired and needs a quick pick-me-up, we have the perfect solution for you… pillows!

Pillows are a great way to quickly change the look and feel of  your room or to add a pop of color where it’s needed.  They are easy to change in an out with the seasons and let’s face it, they are fun to shop for… all of the new colors, patterns, and textures… ooh!

A tip for mixing and matching pillows: grab a couple in the same color family or that have colors that are repeated in a few. It’s good to make sure you have a variety of patterns: think maybe a stripe, an animal print or large floral, and a texture…  (And don’t forget to add in a solid velvet pillow or two – they are perfect for nap time on the sofa!)

design in the details

March 12, 2010

Do you know what makes something ‘haut’? Details, my dear, details!

Holly and I are involved in our projects  from the very  beginning concept phase, to the end details. Details are what makes your house feel like your home.

Here are some detail shots from a project we designed up in Plymouth…

A shot of color is a great way to add an interesting detail. The patterned pillow and yellow pillow grab your attention in an unexpected way.

We LOVE fabric! By using an interesting fabric with subtle pattern, this chair really pops!

In the dining room, we selected a fabric for the backs of the dining chairs that had some fine embroidery details to catch your eye. The fine, white details add elegance and interest.

Adding oyster shell trim to these window panels really makes them stand out.

This bench has a special little detail: rouched trim along the edges. It really finishes off the piece.
