project update: mendota heights
November 9, 2011
Hammers are being swung, concrete is being poured and measurements are happening for custom cabinetry. Yes – our project in Mendota Heights is in full swing and there is lots to update, so here is a smidge for you today…
In the top ‘before’ picture you can see that there was a screen porch on the right side of the house. Inside, we re-oriented where the kitchen is and now it will be to the left of screen porch. We decided to remove the porch for a couple of reasons… now there will be more room for the herb garden, there is a better flow from inside to outside, and view from kitchen to pond is clear, where before the porch was blocking it.
In the bottom ‘before’ and ‘after’ picture, you can see that off of the new kitchen and dining room, we designed a covered patio space for grilling, eating and entertaining outside. The family loves to spend time outside and enjoy our beautiful MN weather.
where the sidewalk starts

Over at our Edina project, the sidewalk and driveway were poured last week… look how the family personalized it before the cement set!
This sidewalk will be especially important for DD, active mother and grandmother, who has her very own suite on the main level complete with sun porch, bedroom, walk-in closet and universally designed bathroom for easy use of the space.
By not having steps up to the house, it make the front door very accessible, and it provides for a nice sized front welcoming area.
Next spring (when all the snow melts!) the family will landscape the front yard and add in a patio that will be accessed off this front porch and a blue stone walkway that will wrap around the right side of the house to the main entertainment space in the back yard.
What a great project this is turning out to be!
Stay tuned for pictures of the main level cabinet installation!
