We were recently out at a site visit to one of our remodeling projects in Mendota Heights. They have made it past the demo phase and are framing out the new rooms and spaces. Check out the progress!

From top to bottom:

  • BEFORE: This picture shows the existing home, a farmhouse built in the early 1900s. In the living room, you can see the fireplace and the ceiling was in need a repair.
  • DEMO: This was taken from the same spot as the top picture. The fireplace mantle is gone, as is the ceiling and walls – we are saving the amazing wood floor. It has peg and bow tie details in it! You can see the walls have been opened up to the new dining room beyond the living room.
  • DEMO: This long shot is down the back hallway leading from back hall to the kitchen. The back door leads out to the back yard, pond, and pool.
  • DEMO: This view is from the kitchen looking into the dining room. The dining room will have windows and doors on 3 sides with beautiful views out to the patios, pond and pool.
  • DEMO: Here is a sneak peek through the existing foundation to where the new hallway to the lower level sport court will be. This is sure to be a room that gets lots of use during the long MN winters!

Stay tuned during the coming months as we finish completion!!! We’ll post pictures of our progress.

design tips: vol. 3

September 30, 2010

Greetings to all!

It’s time for another installment of our hauthaus design tips for your home!

FRONT ENTRY TIP:  A bright, colorful console or coat rack, a favorite piece of artwork and/or  fresh flowers will energize your entry and express who you are.

Your home should welcome you at the front step and project your design style with gusto!  Make a statement and make sure it carries through from one room to the next.

HOME OFFICE TIP:  Be sure to have the supplies you use regularly organized and in abundance.  A well stocked home office and a comfortable desk chair will encourage you to go in and sit down for a bit.

Task lighting and a paper recycling bin or shredder will make you even more efficient at managing your correspondences.

FAMILY ROOM TIP:  Make this gathering space purposeful.  Are there games nearby?  Cozy blankets within reach and stain resistant fabric on the sofa?  Coasters and good reading material close by?

The TV doesn’t have to be the only source of entertainment.  If there are alternatives handy, like a deck of cards, they will likely be used!
