1. We have sold over 7,000 feet of fabric since Holly opened the doors in February 2003… That’s about 1.35 miles of fabric!

 2. Our previous office space was located in the Ford Center downtown Minneapolis where they once built the Ford Model T.

 3. Holly was named “Emerging Talent of the Year” in 2005 by the American Society of Interior Design.

 4. Since we started our design blog in May of 2009, we have had just about 30,000 views and have posted 198 entries.

 5. We have worked on projects all around the country… from Minnesota to Florida to Arizona and places in between!

And now… for the rest of the story…

To conclude our wrap up of blogs from the past year, we’ve noted a few entries from the last part of 2010.

In July, we posted the  ‘after photos’ from the 2010 ASID Showcase Home  where we designed the Front Porch on the Lake of the Isles home. https://hautblog.wordpress.com/2010/07/06/showcase-home-porchafters/

In August, we highlighted three of the main color trends for fall: Magenta and Chocolate, Yellow, Grey and White, and eggplant. See the fresh combo of yellow, grey and white here: https://hautblog.wordpress.com/2010/08/03/color-trends-yellow-grey-and-white/

In October, we posted a few pictures from a custom window installation. We used the same fabric on the cornice board and to upholster a wing chair in this lovely music room. https://hautblog.wordpress.com/2010/10/14/hauthaus-installation-day/

In November, we showed you how to make a feather wreath with Holly. Did you make one? If so, we’d love to see pictures! 🙂 https://hautblog.wordpress.com/2010/11/22/make-a-holiday-feather-wreath-with-holly/

In December, we showed you how to create a fabulous holiday table using things you might find in your kitchen cabinets and your front yard! https://hautblog.wordpress.com/2010/12/09/holiday-table-decor-with-hauthaus/

The 2010 ASID Showcase Home Tour has come and gone. What a great 4 weeks it was! Thank you to all who came to support ASID, the four beneficiaries, and great interior design!

If you didn’t get a chance to go take a peek inside, here are some of our after shots from the front porch at the Isles home…

Porch highlights:

  • We sanded down the floor, which was covered in paint, and found Douglas Fir flooring that was original to the home, built in 1908.
  • To add color and texture, we applied a navy vinyl floor covering to the ceiling.
  • Since the homeowner is a world traveller, we incorporated many of his own pieces into the design.
  • We specified furniture from Grange’s new outdoor line from KDR Showrooms.
  • All of the fabrics in the space are indoor/outdoor from KDR Showrooms.
  • Palm leaf ceiling fans were installed to circulate fresh air.
  • Antique furniture pieces and accessories were found at Spinario Design in Northeast Minneapolis.
  • A new Waverton Cambria top was fitted to an existing antique Weiman table in the seating area.

What are some of your favorite design features? We’d love to know!

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2010 ASID Showcase Home Tour!

This project helped raise money for ASID, Cornerstone, The Jeremiah Program, Second Harvest Heartland, and the Junior League of St. Paul.

We hope that you enjoyed your tour of the home on Lake of the Isles and the condo at the Edgewater on Lake Calhoun.

time is running out!

June 7, 2010

Hey guys and gals!

Time is running out to see, for the first time in history, TWO ASID Showcase Homes for the price of ONE ticket!

Edgewater Condo at Lake Calhoun

Designers at the Edgewater Condos on Lake Calhoun used their design skills to transform an empty condo shell with no walls, electric or plumbing into a sleek, sophisticated home with a stellar view of the lake. The condo has a luxurious, serene feel that uses blues, greens, and sand tones that were inspired by the nearby lake.

Dan Buettner's home on Lake of the Isles

Six blocks away is Dan Buettner’s home on Lake of the Isles Parkway. Dan is an explorer who believes a healthy lifestyle contributes to longevity. His home was designed with these health tips in mind. This home has a lot of flavor and spice; all of the designers incorporated art and artifacts that Dan has collected on his travels around the world.

Don’t forget to stop by! The tour is open NOW- JUNE 13th. Wednesday -Sunday, 10-4pm.

Tickets are available at: http://www.mspmag.com/promotions/wherewe’llbe/asidhometour2010/171678.asp

the porch: before hauthaus

Once upon a time, there was a front porch in a beautiful home on Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis. It needed some love and care. The floors were painted a cement grey color, and the beadboard ceiling needed a little bit of updating.

The new, large windows boasted a breathtaking view of the lake and running trail, which made this porch an ideal place to gather with friends and family.

the porch: the transformation

Enter hauthaus. Holly and Amber used the concept “Gentleman in the Jungle” and ran with it.

They crossed their fingers as the crew from Vujovich Design Build sanded the grey paint off of the floor. It was a pleasant surprise to find the original Douglas Fir wood flooring from 1908 intact.  What a sight to see! It was a shame that such beauty had been covered up for so long under all those layers of paint.

The floor was stained to a pretty fruitwood finish and a navy vinyl floor covering was installed on the ceiling to add color and texture to the space. Furnishings were sourced at Spinario Design and KDR Showrooms in Minneapolis. Some of the homeowner’s own pieces were used in the final design of the porch.

the porch: almost

Just as the opening day of the showcase home was nearing, the furniture was delivered and finishing touches were put in place.

The curvy Teak chair and ottoman and “Purple Heart” wood table were built by an Italian furniture maker. The homeowner, Dan Beuttner, found these pieces of reclaimed wood while on his travels through South America.

It seems as though every piece in this home is special and has a fun story.

We hope that you can stop by the houses in the next few weeks to see the finished hauthaus porch and to view other brilliant designer work!

Tickets are available online at www.mspmag.com or you can stop in at a ticket outlet such as Lunds, Bachman’s or Patina for discounted tickets today!

spring is in the air

April 8, 2010

Spring is in the air and you know what that means… the birds start chirping at a very early hour, gardens and nurseries are starting to pop up in parking lots with spring blooms and veggies, and the ASID designers are scurrying to get the finishing touches in order for the ASID Showcase House.

But guess what?  This year there are TWO showcase houses!  That’s right – you get TWO beautiful home tours for the price of ONE ticket!!

One home is a condo located on Lake Calhoun, and the other is a turn-of-the-century home on Lake of the Isles.

For info, tickets, and a peek at the progress thus far click on this link:

Holly and I are working on the Lake of the Isles home owned by world traveller and author, Dan Beuttner. We are designing the front porch. It will be smart, delightful, and inspired. We hope to see you there during the tour!
