see local art

July 24, 2009

This week I got a chance to preview an art showing at Barbette in Minneapolis by three local artists. One of the artists, Aaron Brand, met me there to show me his latest pieces.

He has very innovative material selections and remarkable composition skills. Aaron’s design is, as he calls it, “Sinatra meets Motorhead”. He thrives on contrast, old with new; nature with technology; and the like. This new show is all about that.

Aaron used recycled materials for most of his pieces in the show. One might wonder what can be done with old computer circuit boards, tree bark, auto headlight bulbs, and plastic cowboys and Indians…. Aaron turns them into fabulous art; that’s what. He manipulates their original purpose and turns them it into something interestingly beautiful and unique.

You can see 16 pieces by Aaron, along with art from two other local artists at Café Barbette at the artists’ reception and party this Sunday, July 26th from 3-6pm. Admission and parking are free.

I will be there from 5-6. If you spot me, let’s chat!
