master bedroom re-design

master bedroom

Take another look at your master bedroom.  Do you see what I see?  Laundry baskets, shoes, accessories, magazines… everywhere?

The number of un-restful master bedrooms I’ve seen in the past seven years of designing homes far exceeds the number of unkempt laundry rooms.  Can you imagine sleeping in a room that’s more messy than your mud room?  It’s no wonder America suffers from insomnia.

Now is the time to make a change.  Your master bedroom is the second most used space in your home.  You spend more time in it than your kitchen, yet it gets relegated to last on the list of rooms to finish.  A bedroom that welcomes you, puts you at peace and quiets your soul is not a luxury, but a necessity.

The great thing about a master bedroom project is that significant improvements can be made even on a relatively tight budget.  Below is a list of thoughts we have on master bedrooms.  We’d love the opportunity to help make yours a sanctuary.

  • when you walk in you should feel that it is inviting, alluring, and sensual.  Yes… sensual.
  • art and sculpture in the room should represent what you want in your relationship; nothing sad or empty, no desolate landscapes, nothing in groups of 1 or 3, but always in pairs
  • No TV in the bedroom! Feng shui practitioners say that having a TV in the bedroom invites for another person to enter into your relationship.  If you must, keep it covered while you sleep or in a cabinet so that you can close the doors on it.  You might find that you and your spouse begin having pillow talk again!
  • the bedroom should be a reflection of both of you and your partner, but not your children.  They have their own rooms and photos of them generally aren’t going to make your intimate moments more intimate.  Catch my drift?
  • most of all it should be a place that you love to begin and end your day within.
